Is CHIP just for people who have had a heart attack?
CHIP's suggested lifestyle changes help prevent, arrest and even reverse heart disease. World renowned nutrition researcher Professor Colin Campbell maintains that the same lifestyle and diet that helps overcome heart disease does the same for all the lifestyle diseases like diabetes, hypertension and osteoporosis.
Can I lose weight with the CHIP program?
Participants find that they can eat more (of the right food) and lose weight - typically 3-4 kg in the month. And the new lifestyle leads to a normalising of weight. More importantly, the risks fall for heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, some cancers and other diseases affected by lifestyle such as diverticular disease.
Aren't genes the most important factor in determining a person's health?
According to the US Surgeon General, genes account for only 10% of major illnesses and premature death. Lack of medical care and environment each also account for 10%. Lifestyle choices are responsible for the remaining 70%, making them by far the No. 1 factor.
Is CHIP a diet?
CHIP is a program of lifestyle choices, of which food is but one. The CHIP Optimal Diet doesn't require counting calories. It suggests reducing the poorer foods and increasing the good. CHIP principles include eating more "foods as grown", high in fibre, less processing and lower in fats, sugar, salt and cholesterol. CHIP shows you how to shop healthy and cook healthy.
